Spacemen were real, the Blob was real, and these incontrovertible facts tore a fatal gash in my scientific worldview... My universe was no longer a tightly-ordered matrix of logic and light, but a dark, shifting moire of shadows, porous with tunnels leading into sinister dimensions where unnamable Things seethed and pulsated....

In this world, anything was possible, and the more scary a thing was, the more possible it became. Had I really laughed at my playmates for believing in monsters? I wasn't laughing now. At the wise old age of six, I too became a believer. My faith in science and reason collapsed, and now there was nothing to stop the terrors of the night from spilling through.
